Central Vacuums

The benefits of a central vacuum system are numerous.  Imagine, vacuuming your home without disturbing the family, sweeping the breakfast crumbs from the floor straight into an automatic dustpan, being able to clean every surface in your home effortlessly yet thoroughly, even those difficult to reach places like the conservatory roof, ceilings and door frames.

Now, imagine sitting back and relaxing in the knowledge that when you’ve finished your well deserved cuppa you won’t be seeing any dust settling back on your furniture, nor will there be any unpleasant odours just clean fresh air.

A cleaner, fresher and healthier home

It’s an absolute fact that every vacuum cleaner has to blow out as much air as it sucks in. The air that the vacuum sucks in is filtered to protect the motor; however, even the finest filters available will only filter down to around 5 microns. This means that fine particles of dust, harmful allergens, pollen, and pet dander and of course unpleasant odours pass merrily through the filters. With a portable vacuum these are blown straight back into the room, becoming airborne before settling back down on the surfaces you’ve just cleaned. Anyone who has vacuumed on a bright sunny day will have seen the amount of particles filling the air, and just think, you and your family are breathing that air! As the Central Vacuum is usually located away from the living areas of the home this is rarely an issue, in situations where the power unit has to be sited in the home (EG. Utility room) the exhaust can be ducted to outside in a similar way that tumble dryers are. Therefore NO dust, harmful allergens, pollen or pet dander are blown back into your home, even the unpleasant smells associated with vacuum cleaners are exhausted outside, leaving your home cleaner, fresher and healthier.

Virtually Silent in operation

The motor/s in a Central Vacuum unit produce about the same amount of noise as a modern good quality portable, the difference being that with a Central Vacuum you don’t carry this noise around the house with you. Typically the Power unit is located out of the way, usually in the garage, utility room, plant room or such place. If you take your present vacuum into your garage and turn it on, then close the door and sit down in your living room you’ll discover how quiet a Central Vacuum would be in your home. You’ll be able to listen to your music, hear the door bell or telephone ring as you vacuum, others in your family won’t be disturbed as they watch TV, do their homework, have that important telephone call or even sleep.

Lightweight and easy to use

With a Central Vacuum System there is no heavy awkward machinery to lug around your home, pushing and pulling, lifting, bending and stretching , just a lightweight flexible hose that follows you effortlessly around as you clean from room to room. The lightweight wand is fully adjustable to suit everyone tall or short, making cleaning more relaxed and effortless; it also makes those hard to reach places more accessible, no more need to struggle. You literally clean the stairs as you walk up! No more balancing acts as you hold on to the portable while you try to clean and climb the stairs at the same time. The extra air-flow a Central Vacuum provides means that you pick everything up with just one sweep of the brush, making vacuuming quicker and easier than ever before.

Quicker and more efficient than an old fashioned portable vacuum

Without the need to push or pull a heavy awkward cleaner around, just a flexible lightweight hose, cleaning becomes a breeze. The extra cleaning power and versatility provided by a Central Vacuum not only reduces the cleaning time it also gives better results. Deep down cleaning without the need to pass over the same piece of carpet over and over again, carpets, curtains, hard floors, walls and ceilings even the dusting and upholstery are taken care of with the extensive tool sets supplied with the systems.  Furthermore, a comprehensive range of accessories are available to add even more versatility and convenience to the systems

Great value for money

When considering a purchase we all think of the cost and we all look for value for our money. A decent portable vacuum will cost in the region of £200-£300 and have an average life of 3-4 years, with a considerable number of homes having more than one vacuum.

Why do they usually only last a few years? Portable vacuums are made as small and as light as possible to be as user friendly as they possibly can, by making them smaller the motor is confined and the filter area is reduced. This results in increased heat around the motor with courser filters letting larger dust particles through and finer filters clogging up more easily, added to that the vacuum is regularly jolted up and down the stairs and bumped into furniture, not the best life for a small electric motor.

On the other hand, the Central Vacuum can be made larger and heavier as it doesn’t have to be carried around; this enables the use of larger and finer filters and motor housings that have adequate ventilation for cooling the motor. Also as the Central Vacuum unit is static it doesn’t get knocked or banged into walls, so the motors run cooler and cleaner which facilitates an easier and longer life expectancy, typically 10 to 15 years. Unlike the portable, when the motor fails in a Central Vacuum it’s a simple job to replace the old motor with a new one, there is no need to replace the whole unit. In fact, there is no reason why the system shouldn’t last a lifetime.

A MUST for allergy sufferers

Airborne allergens affect the vast majority of people to some extent; to allergy sufferers they can be a serious problem and can even trigger asthma attacks etc in extreme cases. Venting the exhaust from the vacuum unit to the outside of the home GUARANTEES that NO DUST, POLLEN or PET DANDER is re-circulated back into the air you or your family breathe. Health issues associated with the dreaded DUSTMITE and its’ droppings are well documented and have been prominently publicised, with a Central Vacuum system you can rest assured that EVERYTHING no matter how miniscule is exhausted outside of your home, leaving it cleaner, fresher and HEALTHIER.

Sounds good but, how will it be of benefit in the commercial sector?

Every building no matter what its use has to be cleaned and in general, the cleaner the better?

With a central vacuum system your place of work will not only be cleaner but the workforce will benefit from a fresher and healthier environment. To be blunt, less man days lost through allergen related illness, or put another way, more productivity!

A rule of thumb with facility management is that cleaning costs are 10% equipment and supplies and 90% labour, it has been clearly demonstrated that a central vacuum system reduces cleaning time (labour) by some 38%, a huge saving on costs this week, next week and every week.

Industries where absolute cleanliness is essential cannot ignore the considerable benefits of a central vacuum system. Food preparation, hi-tech engineering, medical supplies and any clean room situation will profit from the addition of a central vacuum system. Health and safety issues will be overcome and logistical problems solved for most industries.

In commercial environments the workforce and customers will benefit as will the impression they have of the company.

Cleaner, fresher and healthier, you can’t beat it!
